PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Café Mirage, a former mainstay on North Main Street, has relocated to the heart of Port Chester.

Just doors away from the famed Capitol Theatre, and steps away from the Metro-North train station, Cafe Mirage tripled its seating capacity at its new location at 223 Westchester Ave.

Chef Dave Haggerty and his wife, Katy, previously operated Café Mirage at 531 North Main St. for 15 years.

The 85-year-old building is the site of the former T&J Villaggio Trattoria, fruit stand and a bowling alley.

Bowling balls were found in the ceiling during an extensive renovation that also unearthed a bottle of vodka and can of Schlitz beer behind a wallboard. There also was graffiti dating back to the 1950s.

Ben Houx, general manager, said everything was upgraded to code and the building's facade was redone along Westchester Avenue.

Houx said the new location has plenty of municipal partking in a lot across the street between Grove and Oak streets, making Café Mirage the perfect place for everyday lunch, after work drinks, date night dinner, pre/post-show dinner and drinks and Sunday brunch

Hours are Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, followed by its daily dinner fare.

Café Mirage's 7,080-square-foot space includes a dining room with seating for 75, a large bar area with seating for 35, and an event space that can cater to groups as large as 120.

The original location, in a former garage, had seating for about 40 people.

The newly renovated 7,080-square-feet space features a dining room with seating capacity of 75 seats, a large bar area with a seating capacity of 35 seats, and an event space that can cater to groups as large as 120.
