Polls Open For Chamber's Best Of Yorktown Contest

YORKTOWN, N.Y. - If you have a favorite restaurant, doctor or bank in Yorktown, the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce encourages you to take part in a contest designed to raise awareness about local businesses.

Voting is open for the 2012 Best of Yorktown competition and can be done by simply logging on to www.yorktownfestival.com/bestofyorktown.

"We were blown away with how many people voted last year," chamber President Joseph Visconti said of the first contest in 2011. "We were so impressed with the amount of support the people in the community threw behind their favorite businesses that we knew immediately that we would do it again this year."

The chamber revamped the categories this year and increased the honorees from 10 to 12. For a business to be eligible, it must be in Yorktown.

The categories this year are fine dining, casual dining, financial institution, real estate service, doctor/dentist/therapist, salon/spa, home improvement, jeweler, bars, arts and leisure (health club, theatre group or organizations, golf, tennis, concert series, pools, parks), children's activities (nursery, play classes, gyms) and instructional classes (yoga, dance, karate).

"By expanding the categories, we are giving more local businesses a chance to shine," Visconti said. "This is a great way for customers to show their appreciation and for the community to find out about some of the treasures Yorktown has to offer."

Voting ends at midnight Sept. 9. Only one vote per person is allowed. Hard copy ballots are available at the Yorktown Senior Center and the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce's networking events.

Plaques will be presented to the winning businesses at the 4th annual Yorktown Festival and Street Fair Oct. 7.
