Subaru of America, Inc. selected five national charities for the annual program and for the first time, allowed local dealerships to pick a nearby charitable organization as a beneficiary. Ruge’s selected Northern Dutchess Hospital. The campaign ran from Nov. 21, 2013 through Jan. 2, 2014. Customers purchasing or leasing a new Subaru were given the opportunity to choose one charity from the list and Subaru, Inc. would make up to $250 donation on their behalf. This campaign resulted in a $6,874 donation to Northern Dutchess Hospital. "I've been partners with Subaru for 45 years and Northern Dutchess Hospital for 40, so the opportunity to nominate Northern Dutchess Hospital as our Share the Love charity is really special to me,” said Lewis Ruge, owner, Ruge’s Subaru. Ruge is a member of the Hospital board and the Hospital foundation board. “I'm very happy Subaru made it possible to keep this donation in our community and benefit everyone here in the Hudson Valley.” The money raised will be used for the installation of medical air in each patient room at The Neugarten Family Birth Center. Medical air is filtered air combined with oxygen at a higher pressure level to improve newborn response to resuscitation. Improved access to the medical air will allow Hospital staff to respond more quickly when treating a newborn who may require assistance breathing. “We are very appreciative for this generous donation by Ruge’s Subaru,” said Pamela Rhodes, RN MHA, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Northern Dutchess Hospital. “The medical air installation makes the delivery of care more efficient and allows us to provide the highest level of care in an emergency.” Northern Dutchess Hospital is among three award-winning hospitals owned erby Health Quest.
