Yorktown Farmers Market Moves Indoors For The Winter

JEFFERSON VALLEY, N.Y. – The Yorktown farmers market begins its winter season Jan. 12 inside the Jefferson Valley Mall, said Karen Symington Muendell, the owner of Maize Market Management.

“We had people asking us if we were going to move inside for the winter, because in Westchester there are only a handful of winter markets,” Muendell said.

The market will be held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until May 11. The market will be in the center court near the mall's main entrance.

Muendell said the mall was initially looked at to host the summer market, but she decided instead to host it at the Yorktown Heights Fire Department headquarters.

“I told the mall I would like to come back and perhaps talk about a winter market if the summer market was successful, which it was,” she said.

Muendell, who lives in the Lakeland Central School District part of Yorktown, said residents from her area barely knew about the summer market. She hopes the mall’s central location will help attract residents from all the hamlets to the winter market.

Muendell has six vendors locked up for the winter season, but said more could be added. The wide variety of vendors will sell baked goods, produce, bread, nuts, soaps and more.

“Center court is much smaller than the field we have in the summer, so I kind of had to hand-select the vendors that could go in and get the best products,” she said.

The current vendors are Do Re Me Farms, Gaia's Breath Farms, Meredith's Country Bakery, Merriweather's, Maura and Nuccia, and Tierra Farm. Learn more about the vendors on Maize's website.
