The Winery at St. George is to begin The Broadway Series later this month. The shows, which run through August, are to feature some of the most talented “Broadway Royalty” on the stage today.
“We had been wanting to bring this type of ‘Class A’ entertainment in this genre for quite some time when a patron of the restaurant began to engage in dialogue with us to do just that,” said Tom DeChiaro, owner of The Winery.
DeChiaro worked with Rob Davis, a veteran in the industry who heads Odyssey Productions -- a New Jersey-based creative marketing and production company. Davis immediately took on the task of getting Broadway talent to commit to the series.
“This had always been a dream of mine,” Davis said. “The Winery is an amazing space that offers a very up close interaction for both the audience and the performer that it is very attractive to talent who enjoy that immediate feedback.”
Davis continued to say that performers use such venues to test new material and interact with fans.
As a means to measure how popular this type of show would be at The Winery, DeChiaro and Davis staged a show featuring “American Idol” finalist and Tony-nominated actor and producer Constantine Maroulis. Davis said the tickets sold out quickly.
The Broadway Series is to feature:
- Andrea McArdle, Broadway’s original “Annie,” on July 27
- Telly Leung of television’s “Glee,” and Broadway’s “Rent,” “Allegiance,” and “Godspell” on Aug. 3
- Alice Ripley, Tony Award-winning actress for “Next to Normal” and current star of “American Psycho” on Aug. 24 – she is set to perform a show called “An Evening of Sondheim”
- Constantine Maroulis is to perform an encore show on Aug. 31
“The Winery at St. George is already making a name for itself as a new destination,” DeChiaro said, noting that the restaurant end of the business is now offering a new, seasonal menu featuring farm-to-table organic gardening and an “unequalled wine list.”
DeChiaro said The Winery plans to announce additional artist performances in the coming weeks.
