YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Westchester Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board presents a free public educational forum on Monday, Nov.16, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Yorktown Town Hall.
Topics will include acquiring agricultural assessment for your farm, lending and grant opportunities, tax credits for farmers, and other issues relevant to agricultural businesses. Teresa Stegnar, assessor for Somers will discuss the process of applying for agricultural assessment which allows active farmland to receive a reduced assessment for property tax purposes.
Coleen Osterhout, loan officer for Farm Credit East will give a brief overview of grant writing resources and discuss lending and leasing options.
Jennifer Adducci, farm accounting representative, will give an overview of the following agricultural related tax credits: income averaging for farmers and fisherman, credit for federal tax paid on fuels, domestic production activities deduction, energy tax credits, investment credit, farmers’ school tax credit, and manufacturer’s real property tax credit.
David Rifenburgh, farm business adviser, will discuss estate planning techniques, gift, sale, installment sales, protecting farm assets, and a brief overview of Affordable Healthcare Act.
Jeffrey Kavovit from Farm Family Insurance will have information available on insurance options relevant for farmers and owners of agricultural businesses.
