Furniture Sharehouse will be seeking to fill its new 18-foot truck with donations of basic household furniture to distribute directly to Westchester families in need. The public is invited to bring gently used furniture in good condition they no longer want or use, including kitchen tables and chairs, coffee tables, end tables, night stands, lamps, lamp shades, small dressers, mirrors and small microwaves in working condition.

Donated furniture will be collected in Furniture Sharehouse’s warehouse at the Westchester County Airport, and distributed directly to families and individuals in need, including those leaving homeless shelters, escaping domestic violence, struggling with poverty and recovering from fires, floods or other disasters.

Since 2007, Furniture Sharehouse has collected and distributed more than 45,000 items of furniture to more than 8,500 people to help them turn their empty apartments into homes and rebuild their lives. The new truck that will be used at the furniture drive has been made possible by a grant from IMPACT100 Westchester, a women’s collective giving group that awarded its inaugural grant to Furniture Sharehouse in 2014.

If you are unable to bring your furniture donation to the mall, drop-off donations are accepted at the warehouse during certain hours, and pick-ups are available for qualified items. Tax receipts will be provided.

The Jefferson Valley Mall’s Community Day activities will include live music, the 10th Annual Taste of Yorktown, antique car show featuring antique fire trucks, as well as local retailers, craft vendors and kid-oriented activities with inflatables, carnival rides and games. Local emergency services teams will be providing demonstrations, vehicle tours, and safety presentations, and the American Red Cross is having a blood drive.
