Long Island Man Drove Drunk With Child In Car, Police Say

A 42-year-old Long Island man was driving drunk with a child in the car when he was stopped overnight, police say.

According to Nassau County Police, Patrick Halligan, 42, of Syosset, was driving a 2014 Jeep Wrangler, and was observed by police unsafely change lanes at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 in Greenvale.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Northern Boulevard and Glen Cove Road when the officer activated emergency lights and conducted a vehicle and traffic law stop.

A subsequent investigation was conducted and Halligan was placed under arrest without incident. Halligan's 13-year-old child was a passenger in his vehicle, police said. The child was released into the custody of his mother.

Halligan was charged with driving while intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra Law, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and moving from lane unsafely. He will be arraigned on Sunday, October 06, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead.
