Participants will hear about turtles and their importance to the ecosystem from Patricia Johnson, a herpetologist and licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

Attendees will want to bring binoculars in order to view the basking turtles from a distance – they are shy and will disappear if disturbed.

To attend, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., meet at the Sylvan Glen parking lot. From Route 202, take Lexington Avenue, one-half mile to Morris Lane on the right, and head straight to the parking lot at the bottom of the hill. The event is sponsored by the Yorktown Trail Town Committee, www.yorktowntrailtown.com.
