Make-A-Wish 5K For Wishes Set For Yorktown In November

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley is looking for walkers and runners for its eighth annual 5K Walk/Run through Yorktown Heights.

The fundraiser is set for Nov. 3 at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights, according to a press release. The Foundation is currently working on more than 150 pending wishes with the average cost of a wish ranging between, $7,500 and $10,000, according to the release.

“Walk & 5K Run For Wishes is a unique opportunity to truly engage the entire community offering a hands-on experience to help make wishes come true,” said Thomas J. Conklin, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley, in the press release. "We are looking forward to welcoming local businesses, community leaders, organizations, schools and individual supporters to walk with wish families and raise the funds necessary to ensure a wish for every child, one step at a time.”

Mike Bennett of WHUD’s Mike and Kacey in the Morning is scheduled to emcee the day’s events, according to the release. The Lagond Music School in Elmsford is also set to headline the morning and afternoon musical entertainment, according to the release. Representatives added that the day's events include family activities such as face painting and hands-on activities.

Representatives said the walk and 5K run would be appropriate for all ages and fitness levels and that residents interested can register in person on the day of the event from 8:30 to 10 a.m. or online at the Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley website .
