The first-ever “Mutts on the Mountain” race is set for Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Blue Mountain Reservation.

Sponsoring the event -- the only timed trail race in the tristate area that permits people to run with their furry friends -- is the Westchester Parks Foundation.

The 5K race includes 3.1 miles of trails to conquer. It features steep climbs, water crossings, rock scrambles and nearly 500 feet of elevation gain.

Check-in is at 8 a.m. The race begins at 9:30 a.m.

The Lazy Dog Fun Run is perfect for humans who tire easily as well as small and older dogs who can’t quite handle the other course’s “ruff” terrain.

This 1-mile romp includes scattered obstacles and a great view of the lake. Check in at 8 a.m. and hit the course at 9:45 a.m.

Registration for the 5K is $60 for each human-canine pair; for the Lazy Dog run, the entry fee is $30.

T-shirts and doggie bandannas will be provided to all race participants.

Watching the race is free.

There will be a carnival nearby the start and finish lines that features a dog park, food and drinks, a marketplace and fun demonstrations for both humans and canines.
