Subjects of discussion include food, food traditions, nutrition and health, and how they relate to local food production, land-use and value, our "foodshed" and local food security.
What do you eat, how do you decide to eat, and how do you come by your food? Should you produce and eat more locally, and if so, how? At the event, you can share what resources are available locally, what is already active and happening, and where the potential lies.
Yoken is starting a Westchester farm producing vegetables, herbs and flowers to supply restaurants and retailers. He is trained in and practices "beyond-organic" growing techniques for nutrient-dense crops and healthy soil.
He holds a master’s degree in ecological design and also runs a small landscape design/install/maintenance company, specializing in edible and native plants. In 2010, he was part of a team that facilitated a planning process for food security and related issues for the town of Northampton, Mass.
This program is for adults and high school students. For members, the event is free, and for nonmembers, the cost is $7. All are welcome. Programs require pre-registration. To register, call 914-762-2912, ext. 110.
