YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Nature lovers from across the Hudson Valley will have a chance to see our national symbol up close next month when Teatown Reservation's EagleFest returns.
The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Croton Point Park. There will be additional viewing locations along the Hudson River at Riverfront Green in Peekskill, the Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center in Sleepy Hollow, Steamboat River Park in Verplanck and Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison.
The viewing locations will line the Hudson River and will be staffed with birding experts to help the public view and photograph the rare bird.
Bald eagles from Canada and northern New York fly south to the lower Hudson Valley area each winter, between December and March, to feed on fish waterfowl found in unfrozen waters according to Teatown. The reservation estimates that 150 bald eagles make their way to the area every year.
All children’s activities and Eaglet Stage shows, including performances by storyteller Jonathan Kruk and a Teatown bird of prey show, are free. The only tickets required are for shows in the Eagle Theatre and for bus tours. Guests should call 914-762-2912 x110 to purchase tickets. The Eagle Theatre shows are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. Bus tours are $25 per person.
