YORKTOWN, N.Y. – YCP TheaterWorks will present Neil Simon's comedy "Come Blow Your Horn" with three weekend performances at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School.
The community theater group will have 8 p.m. performances on Friday and Saturday, and a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday. Tickets at the door are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased online through PayPal at a discount of $17 and $14.
The production is directed by Joel Karpoff, who has staged shows for company players for 15 years. "Come Blow Your Horn" will be Karpoff's fourth show with YCP TheaterWorks.
"It was Neil Simon’s first show, and it was one of his most successful ones," Karpoff said. "I think it’s very timely, in respect to relationships between kids and parents, and things of that nature. It’s really apropos of today’s times and relationships with kids and parents."
Karpoff has also directed two other Neil Simon plays – "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" and "Barefoot in the Park" – for YCP.
"He writes in such a way that the performer can intersperse their own characterization with what he’s written," Karpoff said. "The performer can add a line here and a line there, and it never changes the concept of the show."
Karpoff said the show has six listed performers and will have one "mystery performer."
"For every person that performs in community theater, it’s a labor of love," Karpoff said before Wednesday's rehearsal. "At this point, I’m kind of nervous. But after [Thursday] night it’s not my show anymore; it’s the stage manager’s."
YCP Theaterworks is in its 53rd season and presents three plays per year. The group will next present "Mama Won't Fly" in the spring.
