The 2017 Northwell Health Walk will take place in Westchester County, Jones Beach, the East End of Long Island and Staten Island, marking the first year that Northwell Health has expanded the annual walk to include its two Westchester hospitals – Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco and Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. The two mile Northwell Health Walk at Westchester will take place at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights, and will support cancer programs and services.

Specifically, funds raised by those walking to support Northern Westchester Hospital will be designated for The Bruce and Andrea Yablon Cancer Health and Wellness Program. This program provides cancer patients and survivors with free access to a variety of wellness services. The goal of the program is to support and empower patients to live a healthy lifestyle and to enhance wellness through all stages in their journey. Patients work with a certified health coach to develop a highly-personalized healing plan that incorporates specific dietary needs, stress reduction techniques, mental wellness and exercise. In 2016, The Yablon Health and Wellness Program provided over 4,700 complimentary health and wellness visits to those in the community.

The funds raised by individuals walking to support Phelps Hospital will be designated for the recently established Northwell Health Cancer Institute at Phelps. The institute gives patients easy access to a broad range of specialized treatments and cancer specialists in surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology. The institute’s patients may also have an opportunity to participate in innovative research studies, including early-stage clinical trials available through Northwell Health’s strategic affiliation with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and its world-renowned cancer researchers.

Event highlights at all four walk locations will include music, entertainment, fun interactive health-related booths and kids’ activities and games. On-site vendors and exhibitors will also share valuable health and wellness information through demonstrations, screenings and interactive educational games.

Westchester residents are invited to walk with hospital staff members, friends, family and neighbors and participate in the fun-filled event. Participants can register online. Check-ins begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and opening ceremonies will be held at 9:45 a.m.
