What's Happening In Yorktown This Week

YORKTOWN, N.Y.  – Several support groups and workshops are scheduled for the week ahead in and around Yorktown.  Monday, Aug. 20 Breast Cancer Support Group: 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Join other women who have battled breast cancer to discuss issues relating to all stages of diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment. The session will be held at the Mahopac Public Library. To register, call 914-962-6402. 668 Route 6, Mahopac. Tuesday, Aug. 21 Senior Benefits Information Center: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. John C. Hart Library has trained volunteers to assist older adults and their caregivers in finding programs and government benefits that will help them stretch their budgets. Information will be available about Medicare, nutrition assistance, the Home Energy Assistance Program, Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) and more. No appointment is necessary. 1130 E. Main St., Shrub Oak.  Wednesday, Aug. 22 Earring Making Workshop: 6 p.m. Learn how to make earrings for yourself and make a pair to donate to a battered women's shelter. Participants are welcome to bring their own jewelry making tools as well. The program is for adults and teens and is limited to 30 people, so call 914-245-5262 ext. 227 to register. 1130 E. Main St., Shrub Oak.  Knitting Circle: 6:30 to 8 p.m. This group is open to women who are living with breast, ovarian or gynecological cancer. Find comfort in knitting and crocheting among others who have similar experiences with cancer. Thursday, Aug. 23 American Red Cross First Aid Workshop: 5 to 7 p.m. The Yorktown Teen Center will be offering a workshop to prepare students for emergencies before heading back to school.
