The parade was introduced and organized this year by the Parks and Recreation department and the Yorktown Heights Fire Department. The parade begins at 6 p.m. Saturday and travels from Yorktown Town Hall, down Commerce Street, turns left in front of the Yorktown Fire House and makes a right and on to Veterans Road. The parade ends at the Jack DeVito Field where Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be waiting to take pictures with kids.
The Yorktown Community Girl Scouts will then “Celebrate the Season" at 6:30 p.m. with classic Christmas songs and the annual tree lighting near the gazebo.
Late Yorktown resident Randy Zapakin will also be remembered at the ceremony with the first Randy Zapakin Yorktown Community Service Award. The first recipients of Zapakin’s memorial award are the Yorktown Girl Scout troops.
Yorktown also encourages residents to bring a boxed or canned non-perishable food item. All contributions will benefit local food pantries. Clothing donations will also be accepted.
The parade and tree lighting will carry on as scheduled rain, snow or shine.
