Their trip took them to Eliot, Maine, where they fixed up homes for people who were not physically or financially able to do so on their own.

They were joined by volunteers from six other churches from Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont. In total, 87 volunteers took part. The YUMC group consisted of 11 high school kids and five adults.

Together, the mission teams completed work at nearly 30 sites. Members of the YUMC team participated in projects that involved painting, carpentry and yardwork. As expected, the largest physical challenge involved the building of a wheelchair ramp for a homebound person.

The Yorktown church’s participation on the trip is due to their continued involvement with the UM ARMY, the United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth. This organization has provided the support structure for mission trips across the northeastern United States for the past 11 years.
