Yorktown Class Teaches Youths About Mental Health First Aid

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A youth mental health first aid course is being offered Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at Soundview Preparatory School in Yorktown Heights.

The class is sponsored by the Putnam Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services' Project Aware and the Alliance for Safe Kids. 

The class will teach a five-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social or self-help care. 

Presenters will be Dara Caputo of St. Christopher's Inc. and Karen R. Profita, a social worker.
