The Solaris Sports Club in Yorktown Heights will be playing host to a Dance-A-Thon to benefit Support Connection. Support Connection is a Yorktown-based organization that provides free support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer.

The event is being organized by Jenna Gammer and Sreeya Sai, two Yorktown seniors who have been interning at Support Connection. Music -- a host of tunes from every decade --  will be provided by DJ Bobby B., a Yorktown student, who also goes by Bobby Barden.

"We wanted to do a community oriented event," Sai said. "I'm hoping this will be fun for the whole family."

Sai said they hope to have a few hundred people in attendance. Helping out at Support Connection is personal for Sai. Her father lost his mother to cancer when he was 11.

"My family is a huge supporter of cancer research," Sai said. "I really love what Support Connection stands for. It's a very rewarding experience. My dad told me how hard of an experience it was to see his mom going through cancer and how lonely it can be."

Sai said she has seen firsthand how Support Connection can make a difference.

"All of the people who run the organization are cancer survivors; it's a very personalized experience," Sai said.

Like Sai, Gammer said she has enjoyed her time interning at Support Connection.

"They have taught us so many skills," Gammer said. "It's extremely rewarding. Helping people battling breast and ovarian cancer means a lot."

Cancer is near and dear to Gammer's heart, having lost a grandfather to lung cancer.

"This really means a lot," Gammer said said. "Support Connection provides women with a comfortable environment where they are free to explain how they feel. Everyone is so dedicated and hardworking."

Preregistration is encouraged for dancers and spectators. A $10 donation is required for admission, with a reduced donation of $5 for children under 10.
