Yorktown's Hilltop Hanover Farm Hosts Programs For Community

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Cheese-making 101 is among one of the many events that Hilltop Hanover Farm will be hosting throughout July. 

Here is a rundown of events:

Farm Stand Open – Fridays, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All produce is grown on the farm without the use of pesticides, herbicides or synthesized fertilizers.

U-Pick Vegetables – Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Harvest veggies straight from the field at Westchester's only U-pick vegetable operation.

Spin & Knit – Sunday, July 6, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Barn F Come gather in an informal atmosphere and be part of a monthly spinning and knitting group. No fee or registration required for first time attendees; $5 for each subsequent class. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HanoverSpinKnitIn/

Preserving the Harvest: Pickling – Saturday, July 12, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Barn F. Learn how to turn your summer veggies into sour snacks that you can enjoy all year long. Fee $25, children $10; pre-registration required.

Couples Cooking with Donna Simons – Friday, July 18, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Barn F Together you and your partner will learn how to cook from scratch several healthy and delicious restaurant-quality recipes. Fee $95 per couple; online registration only.

Spin & Knit – Come gather in an informal atmosphere and be part of a monthly spinning and knitting group. Saturday July 19, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Building A.

Cheese-Making 101 – Learn how to make your own cheese from scratch. Fee $20, children $10; pre-registration required. Saturday, July 26, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Building A. 

Pests and Disease in the Garden – Learn how to best prevent, identify, and treat the damage done by common pests and diseases. Saturday, July 26, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Barn F.
