The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Yorktown High School auditorium, 2727 Crompond Road, with a showing of “Fed Up,” a documentary examining the rising obesity rates in America.

Immediately following the film will be tastings in the high school cafeteria, prepared by area chefs who source from local farms. Students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to attend.

Tickets for the movie and tasting are $10 for adults and free for students and can be purchased online at www.yorktown.org.

Laura Tolosi, Director of Wellness Programs at the Yorktown Central School District commented on the purpose of the event.

“This is an excellent event to share perspectives regarding childhood obesity, to sample great-tasting locally sourced food and to get connected to local resources," said Tolosi.

"Our hope is that participants will learn something new, find resources within our community and feel empowered to consider change toward personal health.”

Gail Chen of Yorktown SEPTA also commented on the event.

“SEPTA is always looking for new and innovative ways to educate parents and students on a variety of issues from healthy eating to bullying," Chen said. "We feel this event is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness and bring the community together.”

Farm-to-table participants include an unprecedented number of talented farmers, chefs and local food supporters:  Brett Alcaro and Wilson Chang of Hilltop Hanover Farms; Laura DeMaria of Hemlock Hill Farm; Derek DiGuglielmo of Eat Local NY; Laurie Gershgorn of Healthy Culinary Creations; Ghenya Gorbatko of Trailside Café; Chris Hayden of The NeighborHerd; Jonathan Pratt of Peter Pratt’s Inn; Michael Schmutzer of Doral Arrowwood; Skinny Buddha Organic Kitchen; Slow Food Metro North and Eileen Zidi of Cabbage Hill Farms.
