Yorktown's Support Connection Focuses On Plans For The Future With Cancer

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Support Connection Inc., in collaboration with the Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center at Northern Westchester Hospital, has announced a free program: “Planning for the Future When Dealing with Cancer.”

It will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 2 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 85 E. Main St., Mount Kisco.

This program will help participants develop a plan for making decisions about medical treatment now and in the future for yourself and your family. Topics will include: Why do I need to plan? What do I need to know? What are the laws, rights and options that affect my health care, choices and quality of life? Why is it important to communicate with my family? How do I begin his conversation? Question and answer period to follow. Jerri Rosenfeld, LCSW and Robin Perlmutter, LMSW will serve as speakers at the event. Rosenfeld has been a clinical social worker for more than 30 years. She is the coordinator and social worker for Northern Westchester Hospital’s Ken Hamilton Caregivers Center, which is dedicated to the support and well-being of the family caregiver.

Perlmutter, a 15-year breast cancer survivor, has been a peer counselor at Support Connection since 2006. She provides counseling to hundreds of women and family members affected by breast and ovarian cancer each year, and is responsible for planning educational programs for Support Connection. Open to people living with breast, ovarian and gynecological cancers as well as adult family members of those diagnosed. Pre-registration is required.
