The Support-A-Walk was founded by local residents as a way to bring attention to the needs of people affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Last year, close to 10,000 people participated in the walk.

Participants complete a three-mile walk, often in honor of loved ones – a celebration of life and a tribute to those who are affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Families, friends, co-workers and teams of walkers are invited to walk together. Individuals are also welcome to participate.

Honorary chairpersons who will be on hand to greet Support-A-Walk participants are Kacey Morabito of 100.7 WHUD Radio's “Mike and Kacey in the Morning,” who will serve as emcee; and Bill Powers of PowersPR Video (www.powersprvideo.com/), who leads the walk’s Not For Women Only campaign. They will be joined by walk ambassadors Andrea Della Mura, a breast cancer survivor, and Judy Callahan, an ovarian cancer survivor.

There will be pre-walk activities and entertainment, including music, welcoming remarks, complimentary team photos, face painting and characters for the children, plus warm-up and stretching to music led by staff from Club Fit. At 10 a.m. the ribbon will be cut, and the walk will begin.

All morning there will be awareness jewelry, greeting cards, books, gift baskets and other items available, as well as information about Support Connection’s free breast and ovarian cancer support groups, programs and services. There will also be a Survivors Welcome Area near the main tent, where volunteers will greet and welcome cancer survivors, and present a token of recognition to each survivor. After the walk there will be free refreshments and a live musical performance by local favorites Sailing Stone.
