"I knew that my health and life depended on working out on a regular basis, and I felt that [Northern Westchester Hospital's] Cardiac Wellness program really fit me and my needs," said Martha, a patient at the hospital.
Located at NWH's Chappaqua Crossing facility, the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, which includes Martha's Cardiac Wellness treatment, is designed to help patients of varying physical capacities. These include those suffering from cardiovascular problems such as heart attacks, to disruptive pulmonary disorders like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease -- or COPD.
One of the biggest fears for those resuming physical activity after a cardiac or pulmonary episode is pushing themselves too hard, too quickly. Rather than lowering the risk of recurrence and promoting general overall health, overexertion can lead to more dangerous side effects.
At Northern Westchester Hospital, the physician-prescribed program is tailored to meet each patient's specific rehabilitation needs. Working with doctors and staff to establish a safe exercise regimen, the program offers peace of mind for patients and their families. "I like the fact that those who [work] here understand cardiac patients and the issues we might be facing," said Martha. "I feel very safe."
As she continues her road to recovery, Martha marvels at the treatment she's received from Northern Westchester Hospital, from the operating room to rehabilitation. "I feel that I'm really cared for here, and the services are excellent," she said.
