The conference will focus on the clinical and economic value of da Vinci Surgery and is being hosted by Intuitive Surgical on Thursday, Dec. 4  in New York City.

Wishner is the first surgeon in the region to perform advanced robot-assisted procedures for patients requiring colon resection for both benign and malignant disease.  Northern Westchester Hospital is a designated observation training facility and surgeons are traveling from across the United States to observe Wishner perform these leading-edge procedures.

“This advanced technology is enhancing the skills of highly-trained surgeons by providing greater visualization and dexterity when performing minimally invasive procedures,” stated Dr. Wishner.  “We are now able to perform procedures through smaller incisions and with less trauma to our patients.  This approach results in smaller scars, less blood loss, a shorter hospital stay, and in many cases a faster recovery.”

Surgeons at Northern Westchester Hospital perform the highest volume of robot-assisted surgeries in the region utilizing two da Vinci robotic surgical systems.  The hospital’s multispecialty robotics program includes expertise in colorectal, urology, gynecology, oncology, and general surgical procedures.

Wishner is Fellowship trained in both colorectal and minimally invasive surgery, has received advanced training in robot-assisted surgery, and has been designated as a trainer for robot-assisted General and Colorectal surgery by Intuitive Surgical.

Wishner performs advanced colon resections using robot-assisted surgery for both benign and malignant disease and is one of the first surgeons in the U.S. to conduct single incision robot-assisted gallbladder removal surgery (cholecystectomy).
