Take Deep Breath And Heal Wounds With NWH’s Oxygen Therapy

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Each year millions of people suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds related to various conditions and circumstances, such as diabetes or poor circulation or infections. Some wounds after surgery or radiation therapy resist healing. With its hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Northern Westchester Hospital is changing that.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy -- or HBOT -- is an advancement in wound care. It is a medical treatment which enhances the body's natural healing process. The patient sits in an oxygen chamber and inhales 100 percent oxygen. The atmospheric pressure in the chamber is increased and controlled, so that oxygen is at a level higher. The richness of oxygen allows the body to heal considerably faster than in normal conditions.

HBOT is a non-invasive process that can bring people remarkable results. Jim, who received HBOT to successfully heal the effects of radiation therapy for cancer, said it was quite relaxing. In fact, he used the time to read or watch the latest movie.

Watch the video above to hear Jim describe the positive effect oxygen-rich therapy had on his wounds, and on his life.
