Be ready for the summer and fun on the water by having a vessel inspection performed by police officers and deputy sheriffs assigned to the Marine Unit on Lake Mahopac.

The inspections will also be done by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies in Putnam Valley and Cold Spring. In an attempt to educate the community on safe boating, officers will advise boaters of required safety equipment and boating regulations in New York State.

Inspections are completely voluntary and a great way to kick off boating safety month.

Inspection locations:

Carmel Police Department & Putnam County Sheriff's Department:

  • June 9: Mahopac Marina, 897 South Lake Blvd, Mahopac, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • June 10: MacDonald Marina, 1 Marina Drive, Mahopac, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Deputies will be performing inspections at:

  • June 9: Cold Spring Boat Club, 5 New Street, Cold Spring, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • June 10: Oscawana Lake Marina, 96 Dunderberg Road, Putnam Valley, 10 a.m.to 2 p.m.

For those who can't make any of the events, they can make an appointment for an inspection by calling Sgt. Michael Szabo 845-225-4300 x266.
