LAKE MOHEGAN, N.Y. -- Willard "Willie" H. Travis, Sr., a lifelong resident of Lake Mohegan, died Feb. 26. He was 86
Travis was a life member and former chief of the Lake Mohegan Fire Department.
He was born Feb. 27, 1925 in Peekskill to the late Everett C. and Emma Travis. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and married Dorothy Tompkins at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Sep. 15, 1946.
Travis was also a member of the Mohegan Fire District, serving as commissioner and retiring as captain in 1987. Aside from his career with the fire department, he also enjoyed gardening.
Surviving are his daughter Carol (Don) Travis, two grandsons and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his son Willard "Bo" Travis and his brother Everett Travis.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill. A funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Mohegan Lake, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.
