PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - Elaine M. Gelinne, a former Yorktown Central School District employee and a Peekskill resident, died Sept. 28 from pancreatic cancer. She was 79.
A native of Shawano, WI, Gelinne was born July 20, 1932 to the late Walter and Hattie Schmeisser. The youngest of 10 children, she went on to attend Shawano High School and Oshkosh State Teachers College. Gelinne met her husband Kenneth while working for the Marathon Corporation in Wisconsin and they married on Sept. 11, 1954 in her hometown.
After living in several neighborhoods in Wisconsin, Gelinne and her family relocated to Yorktown Heights, where she started a 35-year career at the Yorktown Central School District before retiring in 2009 at the age of 77.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights and memorial services will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Yorktown and St. James Lutheran Church, Shawano, WI. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Yorktown Heights and Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam.
