YORKTOWN, N.Y.To get Yorktown residents in the holiday spirit, Hilltop Hanover Farm is selling gifts, while asking for something in return.
Starting this week, the farm is offering Thanksgiving vegetable baskets for the second year while simultaneously asking for donations for the Food Bank for Westchester.
Reservations for the gift baskets must be made in advance, and can be picked up on Nov. 22. For the holiday season, the farm is also asking people to donate dried beans, flour and rice, all of which will be given to the food bank until Dec. 10.
In 2010 we offered Thanksgiving vegetable baskets for the first time, and clearly from the response there is a market for local, organic, seasonal vegetables, said Friends of Hilltop Hanover Farm president Helen Brady. We are also delighted to continue our tradition of accepting food donations on behalf of Food Bank of Westchester, during the weeks leading up to the holiday season. Highlighting the plight of the hungry in our area and providing for them is a priority for us, and over the past two years we have donated over 5 tons of farm fresh produce to area food pantries.
Reservations for the baskets can be made by calling the farm office at (914) 962-2368 .
