Hvhc Hosts Teddy Bear Clinic at JV Mall Breakfast

JEFFERSON VALLEY, N.Y.-- The Jefferson Valley Mall held its annual Holiday Breakfast this past weekend, and invited some special guests.

The mall supplied Santa Claus, and children who visited brought their own teddy bears ready to be "healed" by pediatric and emergency specialists from Hudson Valley Hospital Center (HVHC).

From broken bones to tummy aches, Dr. Eric Mier, pediatrician at Westchester Medical Practice, and Justin Costable, EMS Coordinator/Emergency Management at HVHC, were on call to heal the ailments of the children's furry friends.

“Going to the hospital can be very scary for little children,” Dr. Mier said. “Teddy Bear Clinics offer a fun and interactive way for children to learn about the emergency department. We describe each step as we take care of their most precious toy, helping to reduce any fears they may have.”

More than 50 children who attended the breakfast also brought their teddy bears to be helped. The clinic was just one of the attractions for the children to enjoy, as local magician Joe Fields entertained and Desert Moon served breakfast.

Hudson Valley Hospital Center hosts a number of Teddy Bear Clinics throughout the year, and welcomes local children’s groups to visit the HVHC Emergency Room for a Teddy Bear Clinic.
