YORKTOWN, N.Y.- A Yorktown organization founded out of the desire to bring young musicians together in a healthy environment, will do just that on Saturday.
The Justin Veatch Fund is hosting a jazz workshop on Feb. 11 at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center featuring Rory Stuart, a jazz performer, composer and teacher. Stuart, who is a professor at the New School University Jazz Program in New York City has taught clinics throughout the world including places like Kazakhstan, Austria and Denmark.
The guitarist has offered to waive his fee as a contribution to the fund, making the fee for each student to attend the workshop $10, explained founder Jeffrey Veatch .
Veatch said he expects about a dozen students to be playing a variety of instruments including guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. The workshop is also open to vocalists.
"I expect we're going to have a lot of fun with some serious learning on the side," he said. "And we hope it will end up in a nice jam session."
The workshop will be held at the Teen Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interested musicians who are looking to rise to a new level should contact Veatch by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 914-772-1254.
