Dear Editor:Mike Kaplowitz is our champion in local government to achieve our dream of building a skatepark in Yorktown.  Many people told us that we would never get a skatepark, but Mike made it happen.Mike listened to the teens, the parents and the local merchants of Yorktown - a dedicated park was needed to support skateboarding, inline skating and BMX biking, which are among the fastest growing outdoor recreational activities.Mike thought outside of the box and identified the Legacy Program as way to fund the skatepark.  As a result, Mike enabled a segment of our youth population not always drawn to traditional team sports to have a place to enjoy outdoor activities. The Patriot Skate Park has been a huge success!  On any given day, you can drive by the Patriot Skate Park located next to Yorktown Town Hall and see the place full of kids of all ages, skating, biking and socializing. Thanks to Mike, our young people have a safe and exciting recreational outlet to practice their sport, sharpen their skills and enjoy the outdoors.  Mike made it happen and has clearly made a difference for the youth of Yorktown and the County of Westchester.Sincerely,The “Skate Park” Moms & TeensConcerned Citizens for Safe Skateboarding in YorktownLinda Gironda, Cathy Gironda, Linda Murray
