This letter was written in its entirety by Chappaqua resident Robin Murphy. Murphy has publicly stated she is not related to candidate for County Legislator Terrence Murphy. To submit your own letter to the editor, email JSwift@TheDailyYorktown.com. It's election time and our County Legislator, Mike Kaplowitz, is courting us. As if its Valentine's Day or our Anniversary and he's bringing home flowers and gifts. But the problem is, the trust is gone in this relationship. He keeps forgetting that it's him that doesn't want us anymore. He's always got one foot out the door, running for State Senate every chance he gets. But because those voters reject him each time, he tries to string us along. He tells us he's changed. But we're not falling for it again. At this point we know that just because he says it, doesn't mean he means it. Like lately he repeats over and over that he voted to lower the county tax rate by 2.2 percent this year. Does he think weve forgotten all the tax increases hes voted for throughout the 14 years he's been in office? In 14 years, he's raised our taxes by 56 percent. And this year he's bragging about one vote that lowers it by 2.2 percent? Meanwhile, I live in New Castle and the County portion of taxes for New Castle residents actually went up, not down. And while he talks about lower taxes, he doesn't say a word about the 71 percent increase in spending and the borrowing hes been involved with. It's time to elect a County Legislator who doesn't have a wandering eye. Who will be there for us when he need him, not only when he needs our vote. Terrence Murphy is the right person for the job. A community leader and family man who is just as concerned for the families in Westchester today as he is for his -- and our -- kids tomorrow. Thats why we must elect Terrence Murphy on Nov. 8th. Hell be a good partner, someone we can trust to be committed to us.Robin MurphyChappaqua, N.Y.
