Putnam Valley Commuter Helps Save Man's Life At Grand Central

PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. – A Putnam Valley commuter helped save a visitor’s life when he collapsed in Grand Central on Friday, Jan. 23.

A Putnam Valley commuter helped save 70-year-old Moises Dreszer's life after he collapsed Jan. 23 in Grand Central.

According to the MTA, Metro-North rider Francis Rush, 27, is a volunteer firefighter and trained EMT who sprang into action when 70-year-old Louisville native Moises Dreszer collapsed in Grand Central’s 47th Street cross passageway from cardiac arrest. Dreszer was with his wife, Cathy, at a Trackside Commissary cart.

Rush began administering CPR while Assistant Station Manager and Fire Brigade member Cory Harris kept Dreszer’s airway open.

MTA Police Officer Michael Burns then got a defibrillator and set it up with Rush and Harris’ assistance. After in initial shock with the defibrillator, FDNY and NY Presbyterian EMS units arrived at the scene and took over CPR. Dreszer’s pulse was restored after a second shock from the defibrillator.

Dreszer was released Jan. 30 and is home in Louisville.
