YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Services will be held Tuesday for a Yorktown woman who died Friday in Orange County when she fell backward about 50 feet from a scenic rock ledge.
Family and friends will pay their respects to Dominique Silvestry, 26, at Cargain Funeral Home in Mahopac from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Silvestry, a Yorktown High School graduate, was sitting on an overlook along Hawk's Nest on Route 97 in the Town of Deerpark about 2:50 a.m. with a friend on July 27 when she apparently lost her balance and fell, striking her head on rocks below and breaking her neck.
Born April 12, 1986 in the Bronx, Silvestry lived in Yorktown since she was in third grade. She graduated from Binghamton University in 2009, majoring in linguistics. She was also a member of the college's rowing club. She worked for about a year as a part-time administrator at Century 21 Mulvey Real Estate in Yorktown and as a massage therapist at Angel Face Day Space in Yorktown.
Silvestry, whose nicknames were "Dom" and "Nicky," was described in her obituary notice as "a free spirit with an infectious laugh. She knew how to light up a room and loved spending time with her family."
She is survived by her mother, Raquel MacGregor, director at The Learning Garden Day Care Center in Yorktown. She is also survived by her father, stepfather, one brother, three sisters, two stepsisters and other family members.
