Siegel: Once Again, Grace Needs to Check His Facts

This letter was written by Yorktown Supervisor, Susan Siegel in response to a letter to the editor submitted last week by candidate for Yorktown Supervisor, Michael Grace.

Once again, Michael Grace has failed to check his facts before attacking the current town administration. Once again, he is misinforming Yorktown residents about what is happening in our town. FACT: Mr. Grace obviously has not read the draft of the Housing Set Aside Law that he is so quick to criticize. If he had taken the time to read the draft, he’d know that there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, in the proposed law that “mandates” developers of residential units make a “financial contribution” to the Town in lieu of building an affordable housing unit. FACT: If Mr. Grace took the time to review Yorktown’s new Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Map, he’d know that the proposed Housing Set Aside Law will likely have little impact on the residential construction industry.FACT:  Mr. Grace is equally uninformed about both the Westchester County Housing Settlement and sewer diversion. If he had taken the time to learn about both issues, he’d know that the county’s affordable housing funds have nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with sewer diversion.FACT:  Contrary to Mr. Grace’s statement, the Yorktown Affordable Housing Board (aka Yorktown Community Housing Board) will not be a “new” creation. The Board has been in existence for over 23 years. In fact, the Board existed when Mr. Grace was Town Attorney and drafting affordable housing legislation.Three weeks ago, Mr. Grace’s statement about escrow fees contained several factual errors. This week, his errors are about affordable housing. Voters may wonder if there's a pattern developing. And not a positive pattern.
