YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Three Yorktown Boy Scouts were recognized last week for achieving the organization’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.

Kyle Monk, Axel Beyer and Matthew Scavarda of BSA Troop 165 achieved the rank after completing their Eagle Scout Service Projects, which are meant to demonstrate leadership while performing a project to benefit a local community organization.

Monk’s project was performed for the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, where he helped refurbish a tool shed. The project included re-shingling and extending the roof, painting the interior and staining the exterior, installing new shelves, cleaning tools, building a concrete ramp and planting new bushes.

Beyer’s project was performed for Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, where he developed, planned and led fellow scouts and adults in the building and installation of 18 benches for the Frisbee golf course. The benches were constructed using fallen locust trees at the park.

Scavarda’s project was performed for the Putnam Valley Food Pantry, where he helped build benches, a bookcase and a sign for the building's entrance. He also helped lead a food drive for the pantry.

Council member Vishnu Patel attended the ceremony to present a certificate to each Eagle Scout on behalf of the Town of Yorktown. Patel’s son was also an Eagle Scout from Troop 165.
