Perito, an office assistant, began her career with the Town of Yorktown in 1984 in the town clerk’s office before moving to the building department. She was transferred to the police department in 1997, where she stayed until her retirement Tuesday.
"I will miss it definitely," said Perito, who called the department her second family. "Everybody at the police department is so nice and a lot of fun to work with, and I will miss them all."
Specht was hired as a part-time employee more than 20 years ago and eventually was brought up to full-time. She spent time driving buses for the town but described her position as a "jack of all trades."
Perito and Specht were honored by the town with certificates of appreciation. Supervisor Michael Grace said working for the town can be a thankless position but said people like Perito and Specth make it worth it.
"We’re always unfortunately subject to a lot of criticism," Grace said. "But we have great people working here. Going back to my time as a town attorney, it’s always been home, a family, and there’s always been great people, and people like you who make it that. It’s sad to see to you go."
