Needle organized the first Jason's Army 5K on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights to thank the McDonough Foundation for its help with his ongoing battle with cancer and to help others who are battling the illness.
The Jimmy McDonough Foundation is a non-profit organization that assists local cancer patients who may be unable to work while going through treatment. Jimmy McDonough, of Mahopac, lost his battle to cancer in 2005.
Although Needle was fortunate enough to have the financial ability to cover his medical bills as well as the emotional support from his friends and family, many who are stricken by cancer do not have those types of support.
Money raised by the foundation goes to helping those battling cancer pay for medical bills, rent, mortgage payments, heating oil, and wigs, among other expenses.
