YORKTOWN, N.Y.--Members of the American Legion in Yorktown are holding a food collection to benefit the food pantry at the Veterans Administration Campus in Montrose.
On October 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. members of Yorktown Heights American Legion Post #1009 will be outside the A&P Supermarket on East Main Street in Shrub Oak, and the A&P in the Triangle Shopping center to collect donations and non-perishable food items.
The goal of the event is to help the veterans in Montrose who are often living on a fixed disability income.
Veterans that have honorable served their country should not have to suffer the indignity of going without food items until their next paycheck comes in, read an event press release. The food pantry provides the opportunity for those who have served their country with honor to make ends meet with dignity.
