As President and CEO of the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, Joseph Visconti is on a mission to bring all of the businesses in Yorktown together.
A life-long businessman, Visconti said his main goal is to act as a resource for businesses in Yorktown.
We try to enhance business for our members, Visconti said from his office at RGI Properties, where he is the principal broker and CEO. The mission of the chamber is to grow the business within the hamlets of Yorktown.
Visconti was elected to be president of the chamber in 2007, after serving as vice president and board member. He joined the chamber for the same reasons he tells other business to jointo network.
The chamber hosts six major events, such as a dinner dance and a 5K run, and 12 networking events. They are also constantly giving back to their customers community, as they recently raised $5,000 for Lakeland and Yorktown high schools at their 5K, and raised $14,000 at a senior luncheon which will be donated to the seniors.
Visconti said the chamber, which works fluidly with the board of directors and different committees, brings more businesses into the chamber so they can benefit from the different resources the chamber has to offer.
Were always looking for new members to join, he said. Last year we had a great year we brought in almost 100 members, and this year were on the same great track and its only June.
The chamber, which was established in 1945, is currently nearing the 500 member mark.
Visconti said the members of the chamber are working harder than ever in the current economy.
Some of them are struggling, and others are doing well. The climate that were in right now-- its tough, but the people that are doing business today are working harder than ever, he said.
Visconti started in the business world right out of high school, but didnt ever see himself becoming the president of the chamber.
Ive been in business my whole lifeIve never had a job, ever, he joked, But I did not see this comingit just happened.
