Yorktown Custom Drum Builder, Folchi Dies at 85

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- George Arthur Folchi, a longtime resident of Yorktown Heights, died March 5 at the age of 85.

The founder of Precision Drum Company, Folchi started the Pleasant Valley custom drum and repair business in 1961.

A retiree of IBM, Folchi started the drum company to provide recovery wrap for drums to mail order customers. He eventually expanded the business, even building a custom six-foot drum for the Blue Man Group, and taught others how to build drums, fueling the custom drum market in and around New York.

Folchi was an active volunteer with Gideons International and he enjoyed letterpress printing, wood and metalwork, motorcycles and music.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gertrude Folchi, his sons George, Ken and Gary, his daughter Andrea and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in the near future at the Bedford Community Church in Bedford Hills. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International , P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, Tenn. 37124.
