YORKTOWN, N.Y. Hilltop Hanover Farm has been a neighbor to Shilpa Devarakonda and is now the recipient of her efforts to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award.
Ive gone on class trips and Ive driven by it, but this really helped me learn about the farm, she said.
For her gold award, the high school sophomore who has been involved in Girl Scouts since kindergarten, created an informational brochure for Hilltop Hanover Farm to distribute so people can learn more about the farm.
The goal is just to get everyone to go see the farm. If people go, they can see how this farm is really used, she said.
Devarakonda said she plans to distribute the brochures and hand them out at different places or events around Yorktown so people can learn about Hilltop Hanover. Her goal is to get people to learn about the farm and all of the different events and classes it hosts throughout the year.
I remember in middle school we had a class trip there. They do a lot of childrens programs and other programs, she said.
Devarakonda said she approached Helen Brady of Hilltop Hanover Farm with the idea for her project. She said Brady helped her to write up what details to put in the pamphlet and her own sister helped her design the work. The brochures were finished weeks ago and she said she couldnt be happier with the final product.
You just have to get over there and see it yourself. Thats what I want people to doto go there on their own and see what this farm does.
