At his press conference Saturday morning Nick Bianco said some things that make a lot of sense concerning the upcoming election. He accused Michael Grace of fostering ”a credit-card budget.” In other words, the town will incur certain costs now and hope to pay for them later. Mr. Grace is basing his claims for future growth on his promise that certain things are going to happen in Yorktown. Among them, the Costco and State Land developments, which may not happen at all, and even if they do, will not impact the coming tax year.
In his 16 years on the Town Board, Mr. Bianco has consistently fought to lower our tax burden though smart fiscal policies and securing school tax rebates. If you’re looking for fiscal conservatism, Nick is the real McCoy. Mr. Grace’s smoke and mirrors won’t do the job, at least not in the long run. So what is this election about? I think it is about an established political machine threatened by change, fighting for its life. An era of political manipulation is coming to an end and it is time for voters to take back Yorktown. Sincerely, Ron Buehl
