Yorktown Neighbors Notes by JaneSez

Molly Ellsworth and Sara Hochman , graduating seniors from Yorktown High School, organized a fashion show as part of their W.I.S.E Project.   W.I.S.E stands for Wise Individual Senior Experience. The two seniors opted to enhance their event planning skills as a course this year.  Fellow students volunteered their time as models. Outfits were donated by Up Front Boutique, The Preppy Turtle, Elephant's Trunk, and Yogi's Paw. Molly and Sara created a top notch, $450 event and received an “A” for their WISE effort!

The Yorktown Hawks Relay Team soared to the top of the relay when they chose to have one person on their team on the track for 11 hours straight.  They passed a candle from one team member to the next to the survivors lap (in honor of two team survivors - Amy Burke and Susan Gilbert ) until the Relay completion at 6:30 a.m. That meant six hours in the rain!  As a team, they walked a total of 208 laps and raised over $8,500 for the American Cancer Society.

The Yorktown Leos Club said goodbye to their entire existing cabinet and inducted the youngest member, Cullen Malzo, into the club on June 14. LEO stands for L eadership; E xperience and O pportunity. Graduating Seniors are Ali Fein , President (University of New Hampshire); three VPs; Jackie Bucci (College of Charleston), Emily Collins (Colorado State) and Taylor Tuccito (James Madison University); Secretary; Greg Toy (Cornell) and Leo Guttman who has received a four-year scholarship to Harvard. Under the leadership of this board and their loyal, hard working and fun advisor, Al Avitabile , the Leos were able to raise $10,000 this year. The new board members are President: Meghan McGowan ; VPs: Mitchell Anderson ; Kristen Burke & Colleen Riordan ; Secretary: Erin Maurno ; Treasurer: Astish Bathija ; Webmasters: Roger Iyengar & Kyle Gutmann and Director of PR: Jackson Pope.

Got Fish? Many kids, like Roger and Marlena Cirrone, did last week at Relay. There were so many goldfish won on Friday night that local pet stores made a display of goldfish food on Saturday morning at the front of their stores. Question: Did you name your fish and are they still alive. Send me a note with a photo of you and your Relay fish and you can be featured in a future neighbor note!
