Yorktown Neighbors Notes by Janesez

Are you a Camp Mom ? Liz Talbert takes her camp mom role seriously with day trips planned to Jones Beach, NYC, Bronx Zoo and boating on the Hudson... the fun never stops.  That is all in between shuttling her sons to sports camps and hosting tons of teen nights in her backyard. Many moms can relate to this and as Liz says, “The fun never stops in the summer.”  Liz’s son Patrick Talbert is volunteering his time (and gaining Community Service hours!) at the Life Skills Camp at YHS . Patrick is happy to divide his time between camp mom and volunteering at the Life Skills Camp.

Kathleen McCrink wanted to be a Nurse and work with kids starting at age 12. She babysat and volunteered as a Yorktown EMT all through high school and college . Her keen sense of caring for people and her determination helped her graduate from Pace Nursing School and pass her State Boards.  Kathleen has landed her dream nursing job a month after graduation in the Pediatric ICU at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital .  The hospital has gotten a gem of a nurse – those children are so lucky!

Sean Finnegan, Michael Ruvo, Doug McCarthy, Kenny Howell , and Mark Hurley , boys from Local Cub Scout den 1, pack 165, are having the time of their lives at Durland Reservation day camp.  Their den leaders, Ted Howell and Mary Anne Ruvo, and the boys’ parents can tell they are having fun by the amount of sweat on their brows, the smell of their shirts… they have to wear the same one every day…(can you say Febreeze?)  and the songs they sing as a group in the car ride to and from camp.

Den 2 , pack 165 held a campout led by Paul Silverman and Robert Miller during the full moon.  The Scouts: Larry Hetz, Ross Miller, Julian Silverman, Jesse Schlanger and Michael Cioffi-Cordero and a guest from Den 1- Doug McCarthy enjoyed building fires, cooking their own food, science experiments, s’mores, stories and a hike up Turkey Mountain. The cub scouts of Yorktown are working hard and having fun this summer!
