Yorktown Neighbors Notes by Janesez

In the true spirit of Neighbor Notes, I would like to congratulate our Neighbors in Somers, Carol Cirieco and Mary Beth Murphy for receiving the honor of top rookie event in Somers, NY at the ACS Relay for Life Regional Conference.  Carol Cirieco was on hand to accept the award as co-chair of this over $100k event with Murphy.   Yorktown Relay was represented by co-chair Jane McCarthy (yes, that is me) and received  the award for the #3 top community event in all of NY and NJ.  Monica Garrigan, senior director of events for Relay for Life and a Yorktown Neighbor, was honored to have two neighboring towns raise over $400K to fight all cancer.  Now, that is what I call Purple Neighbor Power!

Speaking of community, Rebecca Pascale & Frankie Gavigan spent Saturday, September 10 doing their share of community service. They spent their day gardening, painting storefronts and helping with a house in Yonkers being built by Westchester's Habitat for Humanity. This was part of Habitat's yearly 9/11 build-a-thon.

To continue the vacation theme from past weeks, the Rufa family, Nick, Isabella, Gabriella and Claudia, went back to their roots this summer …in Italy.   They attended a cousin’s wedding with Isabella’s parents.  Gabrielle and Claudia loved going to see the sites in Rome, and the best part of their trip was seeing where their grandparents grew up in Ripi, Frosinone,  a small town 45 minutes outside of Rome, Italy.
