The guests of honor were recognized for their volunteer work at the Foundation for Excellence in Yorktown Education's second annual Casino Night and Dinner Dance at the Doubletree Hotel.
The trio helped establish Relay for Life in Yorktown in 2006. That year, 21 teams helped raise $64,000 for the American Cancer Society. Now in its eighth year, Yorktown’s Relay for Life is one of the top-fundraising towns in the New York/New Jersey area and is coming off a two-year stretch of raising more than $500,000.
All money raised from the casino night will pay for grants and scholarships for the Yorktown Central School District. Last year, the foundation paid for $44,000 worth of grants to teachers, and two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors, according to Foundation for Excellence President Shari Besterman.
